This past February I headed down to my eastern North Carolina old stomping grounds to see the double billing of the Lexx Luthor and Driver bands at the Live Bar in Greenville, NC .
These two bands have been legends in the North Carolina hard rock/heavy metal club scene since the eighties. If you are a fan of early to mid- 80s heavier heavy metal bands like Queensryche, Badlands, Slayer, Savatage, Judas Priest, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden, this band is for you.
They perform the more abstract titles from these bands that only true fans of the bands would recognize. This approach keeps a freshness to the show and separates them from being just another heavy metal cover band.
These guys are seasoned professionals from top to bottom. Lead singer Tony Rock (Tony Williams) is an amazing vocalist that can cover the various voices with feeling and precision. If you close your eyes during the Queensryche and Maiden tunes, you would think that Geoff Tate and Bruce Dickinson were on stage. This is not an easy feat to accomplish. Veteran guitarists Noble o-Rourke and Todd Jackson can devour any of the guitar work with sabre wielding exactness and feeling. Experienced bassist Scott Davis and drummer Greg Evans truly master the groove. Additionally, most all of the guys can sing. In my experience, there are many heavy metal cover bands that fall short when it comes to vocals. This is not the case with Lexx Luthor. Even though Tony does most of the vocal heavy lifting, Scott Davis and Todd Jackson take the lead vocals on the songs that fit with their vocal talents. This show is definitely worth getting off your butt and seeing first hand.
Here are some of my favorite shots from the show.
